Pet-conscious means that animals are considered throughout the formulation and review of our products, rather than being an afterthought.
Many of us use more home fragrance during autumn and winter, when our windows are closed and our pets spend more time indoors. We believe it is important to think carefully about what we introduce into that shared environment.
Our products are developed to help create a beautifully fragranced home while reducing avoidable risks and making more considered choices for households with dogs and cats.
We deliberately use the term pet-conscious rather than pet-safe.
No home-fragrance company can promise that one product will be completely safe or suitable for every animal. Pets are individuals and may have different health needs, allergies and scent preferences.
Our products are formulated and reviewed with pets in mind, but they must still be used responsibly and in accordance with the product instructions.
Our formulations go through a considered review process before they are produced for sale.
A formulation is first developed with our chemist, together with the relevant safety documentation. The formulation, safety data sheets and a product sample are then reviewed by Martina, our practising vet.
Martina looks for potential concerns or ingredients requiring further clarification. Where necessary, she may consult specialist resources such as the Veterinary Poisons Information Service. If she recommends that a formulation should be changed, it is amended before production.
She also provides ongoing veterinary input as we develop new products and is available to help with general product-related questions.
Are your products formulated for dogs and cats?
However, every animal is different. Age, health, allergies, respiratory conditions and individual scent preferences should always be considered when introducing any fragranced product into the home.
Our range has not been formulated specifically for birds, rabbits, reptiles, hamsters or other small or particularly sensitive animals.
We recommend asking a vet who knows your animal before introducing fragranced products into its environment.
If you do not have access to a vet, you are welcome to contact us at hello@follywild.co.uk with a product-related question. Where appropriate, we can pass the question to our veterinary adviser.
This service provides general product guidance and does not replace individual veterinary advice, examination or treatment.
Pet-conscious products must still be used carefully. Please:
Follow all instructions and safety information supplied with the product.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Never leave a pet alone with a lit candle.
Keep candles, wax, diffusers, sprays and fragrance liquid out of pets’ reach.
Prevent pets from licking, eating or walking through fragrance products.
Avoid contact with your pet’s skin, coat, eyes, mouth, food and water.
Use fragrance in a ventilated space.
Allow your pet to move freely away from the fragranced area.
* Take additional care and consult your vet if your pet is very young, elderly, unwell, has severe allergies or has an existing respiratory condition.
Just like people, animals can have individual scent preferences. A pet choosing to leave a fragranced room does not necessarily mean that a product is unsafe. They may simply prefer a different scent. Always allow them that choice.
Yes. All Folly & Wild products are vegan and cruelty-free.
All of our candles and wax melts are made using plant-based wax.
We do not make sweeping claims such as “chemical-free” because every material, including natural wax, is made from chemicals. Instead, we carefully select our materials and assess each finished formulation with responsible home use and pets in mind.
Most of our candles use cotton eco wicks. We occasionally use wooden wicks when they are suitable for the particular vessel and formulation.
Every candle is tested with its chosen combination of wax, fragrance, wick and vessel before it is released for sale.
Yes. Our products are handmade in Oxfordshire using materials sourced through UK suppliers wherever possible.
Depending on the product, we use either carefully selected fragrance oils or essential-oil blends.
It is important to remember that “natural” does not automatically mean safer for animals. Some naturally occurring essential oils can be unsuitable for particular pets. This is why we assess every formulation individually rather than assuming an ingredient is appropriate simply because it is natural.
Yes. Many of our candle vessels are designed to be enjoyed again using our candle refills. Refills can be ordered online and fitted at home by following the instructions supplied.
If you have a Folly & Wild candle but cannot find the correct refill on our website, please contact us. We will do our best to identify the vessel and help you find a suitable option.
Our refills are designed for compatible Folly & Wild vessels. Please do not place one inside a different container unless we have confirmed that it is suitable.
Not completely, but we keep our use of plastic to a minimum wherever practical.
Some products, particularly reed diffuser refills, require packaging that can safely withstand the product inside. Our refill pouches are made using recycled plastic. Unfortunately, the caps cannot currently be recycled because the materials normally used for recyclable caps are not compatible with our reed diffuser base.
We continue to look for safer and more sustainable packaging as suitable options become available.
Yes. Our scent testers are small wax melts supplied with instructions, allowing you to experience the fragrance before choosing a full-sized product.
You can smell the tester cold and then gently warm it in a suitable wax-melt burner to experience its hot scent throw.
Happy Hound is our more rounded, all-purpose aromatherapy blend, created to bring a fresh, uplifting spa-like fragrance into your home.
Calm Paws was developed specifically to create a softer, more calming atmosphere. It was originally created for our founder and her dog at a time when they were both experiencing anxiety, making it a particularly personal Folly & Wild blend.
Both have been formulated with dogs and cats in mind, but scent is personal, so we recommend trying a scent tester if you are unsure which one you and your pet will prefer.
Absolutely. If you tell us which perfumes, home fragrances or individual scent notes you already enjoy, we will happily help you narrow down the collection.
Email us at hello@follywild.co.uk and we will help you find something that sounds right for you.
In some cases, yes. If you prefer a gentler scent throw or are particularly sensitive to strong fragrances, please contact us before ordering. We may be able to make a lighter version using a reduced fragrance concentration.
These products will be made to order, so our bespoke processing time will apply. A reduced fragrance concentration cannot guarantee that a product will be suitable for every sensitivity or migraine sufferer.
Place your reed diffuser somewhere secure, out of the reach of pets and children. Avoid windowsills, direct sunlight, radiators and other heat sources, as heat can cause the liquid to evaporate more quickly.
For the best fragrance distribution, choose an area with natural airflow or somewhere people regularly walk past. Always protect the surface underneath your diffuser from accidental spills.
We recommend carefully turning your reeds approximately once a week to refresh the fragrance.
Wear gloves when handling saturated reeds, or wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Take care not to drip diffuser liquid onto furniture, painted surfaces or fabrics.
The lifespan of a home-fragrance product varies according to several factors, including the size and temperature of the room, airflow, placement, frequency of use and how the product is cared for.
Because every home and usage pattern is different, we prefer not to promise an exact lifespan. Following the care instructions supplied with your product will help you enjoy it at its best.
Yes. Our wax-melt pick-and-mix is a lovely way to explore several fragrances without committing to full-sized products.
Gift wrapping is not currently available as a standard option through our website, but we may be able to arrange gift wrapping or include a personalised message for you.
Please contact us before ordering so that we can discuss what you would like. An additional charge will apply for gift wrapping.
A product is considered bespoke or made to order when it is created according to your individual choices. This may include choosing a particular vessel, fragrance, colour, design, wording or other personalisation.
Because these products are created specifically for you and may not be suitable for resale, different cancellation and returns conditions apply. Please read our Returns and Exchanges Policy before ordering.
If you need to change something, please contact us as quickly as possible.
For standard, off-the-shelf products, we will always try to help if the order has not yet been packed or dispatched, although changes cannot be guaranteed.
Once a bespoke or personalised order is shown as “Preparing”, it means we have accepted the order and started creating it. The product may already be made or settling, so changes cannot usually be made after this point.
Please check all fragrance choices, colours, wording, personalisation and delivery details carefully before submitting your order.
Please contact us as quickly as possible if you wish to cancel. If your order has not yet been dispatched, we may be able to stop it before it leaves us.
If it has already been dispatched, our standard Returns and Exchanges Policy will apply. Your statutory rights are not affected.
Once a bespoke or personalised order has been accepted and its status has changed to “Preparing”, work has begun and it cannot normally be changed or cancelled.
This does not affect your statutory rights if the finished product is faulty, damaged or not as described.
